Gambling licence: definition and example

Authorisation issued by a regulator (Curaçao, Anjouan, Kahnawake…) that governs a casino’s activity and players’ recourse.

Definition

The licence shows which authority supervises the casino and which rules it must follow: player protection, anti-money-laundering measures, handling of complaints. Requirements and recourse vary greatly from one authority to another.

Example

Since the LOK law came into force on 24 December 2024, Curaçao licences have been issued directly by the Curaçao Gaming Authority.

What to check

Note the licence number at the bottom of the website and check it with the authority where its register can be consulted.
