Volatility: definition and example
How a slot machine spreads its winnings: small and frequent wins (low volatility) or rare and large ones (high volatility).
Definition
Two slots with the same RTP can play very differently. With high volatility, wins are rare but can be very large, and the balance melts away quickly in between. With low volatility, wins are modest but more regular.
Example
With a €100 budget, a high-volatility slot can use it all up without a single big win, whereas a low-volatility slot will generally make the session last.
What to check
Choose the volatility according to your budget and how long you want to play, not according to the maximum win displayed.
